Hi Rachel, sounds like you have your hands full. Good for you. I have tremendous respect for your efforts. I came across your page here after entering "Jamaica Volunteer" on Yahoo. I was trying to investigate an opportunity to help out in Jamaica. It seems like there are many companies that do volunteer programs, but are expensive to volunteer with or want a religous missionary type. I wouldn't mind spending the money, but I don't want it to end up in the pocket of some white guy in Ohio or somthing. And I don't feel qualified to speak for a higher power. I would like to bring my tent and my tools and help build, fix, repair, etc.. I'm a pretty introverted type. Teaching or preaching not really my thing. I was wondering if you would be able to point me in the direction of a place to come and help out for a few weeks (I am married and employed in CHicagoland, so unfortunately that would probably be the most I could spend at one time). I'm sorry if this is weird, but your opinion as a "somewhat native" would be helpful. Thanks, Russ

Marci,

A response to your question asking what this site is all about.
This blog/journaling site is a venue for me to share my thoughts and experiences as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Jamaica. It is also a way for me to share with many family and friends that is generally time efficient and cost effective. It is very informal and casual. Unfortunately, I am very irregular as to when an entry is submitted. I wish that I would regularize my entries, but that just hasn't happened yet due to the fact that I am always very busy and have a modem connection so I pay by the minute to be on the Net.
I hope this answers your question.
